First stage of portrait, “Däna”, laying in big shapes of dark and light. Tried it in portrait class last Wed with so-so results, and decided to try it again.
“Down the Mountain”, 5 x 7 pastel, forgot to time
Little more detail than the oil version
Will be working on a portrait in oils for the next couple of days, then back to the painting a day with some new images.
“Red Car”, 5 x 7 pastel, 35 minutes
Need more practice drawing cars for sure!
“America’s Mountain”, 5 x 7 pastel, 25 minutes
Trying for a sense of atmosphere and distance. Snow scene tomorrow!
“Long Cool Pines”, 5 x 7 pastel, 25 minutes
A little more confidence today!
And I start a portrait painting class in oils this evening. It will be interesting to see what happens.
Day 6 starting over with pastels
“Roadside Shack”, 5 x 7 pastel, 30 minutes
Feels a little different working in pastels! Next one tomorrow.
Down the Mountain, 5 x 7 oil, 23 minutes
Day 5—last day of the challenge. Getting more done in less time for sure!
Will o the 5 paintings again as 5 x 7 pastels for the next 5 days.
Red Car, 5 x 7 oil, 27 minutes
Day 4—a snowy day here in Colorado, so a snow painting seemed in order! Very challenging with only shades of grey for most of it. Need more practice on values, and more practice on cars…
“America’s Mountain”, 5 x 7 oil, 30 minutes
Day 3 felt a little easier, didn’t feel as much of a time pressure. Looking forward to day 4!
I’m much happier with this effort, a 5 x 7 oil that took about 35 minutes. Need to work on brighter color! Will try again tomorrow.
